    Module 1: Introduction to UX

    This module contextualizes the types of research that comprise “UX Research” and are found in many private sector institutions. It outlines the major differences between performing research in an academic setting versus the private sector, including timelines, modes of sharing findings, and expected interactions with partner roles.

    Module 2: UX Research Methods

    This module covers the fundamentals of UX Research methods used in the private sector. It discusses UXR methods and analytical approaches through the lens of their application in a business setting and the constraints faced there. It outlines the three fields of UX Research - Design Research, Qualitative Research, and Quantitative Research. You’ll walk away with a strong introduction to these core sets of methods and how they compare to one another.

    Module 3: Turning your CV into a one-page resume

    This module discusses the types of UXR-related content that recruiters look for in applicant’s resumes and how to translate academic experience into a more condensed, private sector-oriented format. This module also presents job seekers with guidelines and examples for paring down lengthy CVs into a one page resume.

    Module 4: Making Academic Experience Legible in the Private Sector

    This module explores crucial concepts and approaches for effectively communicating academic experiences to potential UX employers. This includes 1) what it means to convey “impact” in a business setting, 2) frameworks for verbal and written description of impact, and 3) leveraging websites/portfolios to re-frame academic accomplishments and communicate them in a private sector-friendly manner.

    Module 5: Digital Resources for Learning and Job Hunting

    Module 5 breaks down how to use various digital platforms, such as LinkedIn, GlassDoor, and Slack to improve job searching effectiveness and gain valuable industry experience to land a full-time UXR role. This module also presents a variety of resources about and testimonials from current UX Researchers who’ve successfully transitioned from academia, to expose job seekers to broader conversations about moving from academia into UX Research.

    Module 6: Agency Roles, Contract Positions, & Full-Time Employment

    This module discusses what job seekers need to know about staffing agencies, contract vs. full time employee (FTE) roles, and the different kinds of companies you can work for as a UX Researcher. This knowledge will help job seekers understand the advantages and disadvantages of different types of employment and/or companies, and will help them make informed decisions regarding what opportunities to pursue.

    Module 7: The Interview Process

    Worried about the job interview? This module covers what to expect from start to finish of the interview process and how to best prepare for these conversations. Although the hiring processes can be daunting, involving multiple conversations with different points of contact from a recruiters, to hiring managers and other subject matter experts (SMEs)—this module will prepare job seekers to succeed.

    Module 8: Learning from Rejection / Accepting a Job Offer

    Module 8 discusses how to juggle the process of applying to multiple jobs simultaneously and how to learn from rejection after an unsuccessful application or interview. It also addresses what to expect upon receiving a job offer, covering in detail the main facets of a job offer and how to most effectively negotiate the terms of the offer.
