Testimonials

“Academia to UX was an excellent resource to support me throughout my transition from academia to UX. Ender and Dustin share very punctual recommendations which surprised me how closely they mirrored my experience job hunting, up to when I landed as a UX researcher.

I have attended Academia to UX courses, talked to its founders and realized that I am not alone in this path. Without their guidance, I do not think I would have had enough courage to move out of academia and to find out what I expect after PhD.”

“This is what I have been missing in my job search! Dustin and Ender have painstakingly brought UXR to life through their experiences in transitioning from academia to the world of UX. Entry into UX has never been made easier for an academic. I highly recommend this course for anyone interested in UX regardless of their background.”

“The Academia to UX course is really well thought out and insightful! Ender and Dustin share a lot of useful information and strategies on transforming your crazy-long academic CV into an effective 1-page resume; how to talk about your academic and non-UX research experience with UXR-relevant vocabulary; and what to expect and how to navigate the UXR interview process. The video modules are engaging and provide a lot of useful information in and of themselves as well as often providing additional resources to do further research.

Ender and Dustin also share a lot of practical academic research examples, I assume many of which are drawn from their own academic experiences, and how to talk about them in ways that make sense in the private sector and UXR world, which is helpful for building your knowledge and vocabulary, but also reassuring to know that the work you’ve done in academia translates to the private sector and makes you a strong and competitive candidate. After finishing the course, I feel confident in tackling the UXR job search and optimistic about what comes next!”

  • Transitioning from an MA, PhD program, or professorship into the private sector can be overwhelming. We have both gone through it, we know…. After taking the Academia to UX web course you’ll have all the information you need to translate your academic skill set and experience to get hired as a UX Researcher.

  • Each module is roughly an hour long, so completing the course takes about 8 hours. However, making radical changes to how you have conceptualized your academic experience, and how you communicate your experience to others takes time.

  • The web course is divided up into eight modules, each focused on a different aspect of transitioning from Academia to UX. The course includes visuals, text, and audio. Presentations are recorded and shared as a video hosted on our site. Each module lasts about an hour and will have its own “page” along with related resources or materials listed below the video.

  • The donation button can be found in the header on the top right.

  • You will have unlimited access to all course content and may view each module as many times as you choose.
